Bandon (Coquille River) Lighthouse
MR-1484
Just north of Bandon, Oregon on Highway 101 near the sand dunes and along the Coquille River stands the Coquille River Lighthouse, also known as the Bandon Light. Built in 1896, it was the last one built along the Oregon Coast and guided ships until 1939, when the U.S. Coast Guard installed an automated beacon on the south jetty. The lens and the fog siren were eventually removed. In 1976 the lighthouse was completely restored and renovated after many years of neglect and is currently part of the Bullards Beach State Park. It is open for tours. Only the tower with the attached fog signal building, and the foundations of the water tower and oil house remain. Painting by Mike Rangner ©copyright 2009
